Double Gold in the City of Gold

Guys. We finally did it.

This, when posted, will be my 100th post on this blog, which is a milestone I should have reached a long time ago, considering this has been up and running for 3 and a half years. But well. Better late than never.

I was going through my past articles for some inspiration to write (I got absolutely none), when I realized it’s been a hot minute since I wrote one of these, so here we go. For old time’s sake.

Let me tell you about the time I went to Dubai.

I say that as if it’s been years. It has been one singular week. A week is all its been and I’ve already forgotten all that happened. This is a cry for help.

SO ANYWAYS.

We flew out on the 10th of June in the morning to the City of Gold. It truly lives up to the name, although cynics (like my mother) may see it as an glorified version of Gurgaon. I till this date have not heard a worse opinion.

The city is nothing if not an architectural marvel. Building after building tickles the feet of the gods, built in the most odd but aesthetic fashions. It is a beautiful city, one I loved.

Later in the evening, we went on a cruise along the marina wharf, with a surprisingly Indian dinner on the boat and a wonderful native dance, which consisted of mainly turning in the same spot and a lot of sleight of hand tricks. The main feature was the fact that he did it on a rocking boat, which makes my respect for him hit the top of the Burj Khalifa.

that’s a lotta respect

Speaking of the Burj Khalifa, that is what we did the next day. In the morning, we visited the Dubai Frame, a large rectangular building in the shape of a frame, with technology that would make the floor beneath you turn to glass, so you could see through to the ground. Later, in the evening, we went to the Dubai Mall, which boasts the world’s largest Nike store and prices that will bankrupt you for a bottle of perfume. From inside the mall, we headed to the world’s tallest building, where we saw the world’s most efficient elevator system (don’t fact check that please) and the world’s most blindingly yellow skyline (don’t fact check this either).

The next day, we headed out in the blisteringly hot afternoon across the desert for a safari, where I rode an ATV in a circle for twenty minutes in a very cheap version of Fast and Furious, and then we sat in a Land Cruiser and rode over the dunes.

We’re now getting close to my top three features of this trip. After the desert safari, we set out the next day to Abu Dhabi for a city tour, a city that stunned me as much as Dubai did. Our morning was spent in the tour, and later in the day we arrived at my third most favorite attraction. Ferrari World.

car go vroom

An entire theme park based on Ferraris entirely, with car themed rides to even car themed restaurants. I did go karting in the reprise of cheap Fast and Furious, clocking 6 laps in 7 minutes. I’m a big boy now.

The next day, we returned to Abu Dhabi to visit Warner Brothers’ theme park, my second most favorite thing. It was one of the best themed parks I’d ever been to, split into two halves with DC themes on one side and cartoons on the other. A lot of rides later, we return, pooped, and await the next day.

The itinerary for the following day involved the Museum of the Future in the morning, which as the name suggests, is a museum dedicated to future life on Earth. It speaks of the vision for Dubai in the future, and how we will have to live, dependent on science and research to ensure our survival.

In the evening that day came my favorite part of the trip. We went to a live experience for Pink Floyd, one of my favorite bands, hosted by a group known as the UK Pink Floyd Experience. They played a lot of Pink Floyd’s top hits over a three hour show, and that was the highlight of the trip for me.

old men vibing

We spent the entirety of the next day in Aquaventure Water Park, the world’s largest water park, getting ridiculously tanned and tired, tired enough to cancel all our plans for our last day in Dubai.

In my opinion, this holiday was one of the best I’ve ever been on. Not too rushed, but just enough to complete all that we should. Realistically, as a tourist, there is not much more to do in this city alone, yet it felt like a success.

That brings us to the end of my 100th blog! I’m so glad I have finally managed to achieve this, and I would like to thank everyone that has encouraged and kept me going these past few years. Thank you all, too, for being here and giving me the satisfaction of knowing I entertained someone, if only for a few minutes.

Have a good one.
